Hechizoo – part 3

Loved it, loved it, loved it!
One day, I’ll be rich and I will be able to buy a nice carpet like those ones. Or buy myself a machine so I can make many!
Thanks very much to Jorge Lizarazo for his welcoming. We had a lovely time, felt really comfortable and my eyes are still overwhelmed…

A bit more of Hechizoo:
A lot of things! Jorge took the time to take us everywhere, to show us a lot of different types of carpets and fabrics. He likes mixing the different materials and can use cooper fibres with leather without any problem. He uses in general a lot of metal in his compositions which gives a lovely effect to the carpets and makes them very strong.

I was very lucky yesterday to be able to go and visit the most beautiful carpet and fabric atelier of Bogotá, and probably of Colombia. Jorge Lizarazo is an amazing artist who let us enter in his world for a couple of hours.
The studio is located in a very poor area of Bogotá, which is called the 20 de Julio, in the South of the city.
Once you enter inside the atelier, it’s another world with people working by hand everywhere, and which such a good taste in everything that you feel straight away comfortable.
There are two massive floors, with different kinds of works. Some of the carpets (like the blue one below) is made by three experienced women at the same time.
More information on their website but more photos are coming…
Patterns of Colombia: hamacs

Another interesting object from Colombia: the hamac. Here it’s hot (well, in Bogotá not too much but down the mountains, yes…), and the hamac is the object to have in your finca (holiday house).
Those ones have very beautiful patterns and colours, and come from the Wayyu people from la Guajira (the same as the mochilas I showed you the other day).
Another pattern out of this:
The Hamacs from San Jacinto are also popular: website and other website.

Carlos is an Colombian artist working with paper and inflable sculptures. He is also questioning topics like the place of the woman in the society, love, politics.
A video about Carlos Blanco in there.
Patterns of Colombia: mochilas

One of the most popular object in Colombia: the Mochila. This is a bag, made by hand by indigenes ( women apparently) where patterns, each time different, mean something.
I did try to get some of the patterns out in order to see how it looks on paper. Maybe needs further work.
I promised myself to go and visit those women and their work one day.

I met Christina in Bogotá. She is a very independant girl, living here since last January. And doing those amazing paintings in her spare time.
I also wanted to show that Bogotá is getting internationalised and more and more foreigners are coming here to get their chances.
She gives some courses for those interested. Here is her email: dongqiyao@gmail.com and her phone number: 3144144307. She also gives courses of Mandarin.
Ola Latina
On 18, Feb 2013 | 2 Comments | In Product Design | By ClaireGuilloton
Ola Latina is a social project created by Vinciane Croonenberghs and Véronique Balance from Belgium. The idea was to create this brand in order to give some work to Colombians. The design is gorgeous and materials used are typically from here. However, the design itself is more European.
Ola latina sells ONLY in private spaces and during events, in France and in Belgium. They are not selling too much in Colombia yet, but they just realised that there could be a market here too.
Ola Latina is exactly the kind of project that I want to show on my blog. I love the mix of the two countries and am amazed about the result. I would be so happy to visit the studios and meet the people creating all those products.
Find out more about Ola Latina on their website.

Máximo Flórez López
Máximo is an architect. He is very meticulous, and organised. The light of the studio was very different from all the others because he had some black curtains on the windows. I guess to control more the light.
Very nice studio.
Apart of his individual works, he is working with his dad, a painter from Bucaramanga on sculptures with wood and cinetic effects.
He also created an important project: “Museo Rodante Audiovisual”, which is a museum that moves with videos and more to see inside. Click here to view the website.
