Cartagena

On 16, May 2013 | 3 Comments | In Tourism | By ClaireGuilloton

Monita is back!
We went to visit the most popular places of the coast of Colombia for a long weekend. I didn’t have camera (the monitas are a bit blond sometimes) but my friend Erwan did the pictures for you to see how the places look like.

Cartagena is a beautiful intramuros city made in spanish colonial architecture. People sometimes say that it’s the Seville of Colombia.

El pueblito de Melon

On 01, May 2013 | 4 Comments | In Children | By ClaireGuilloton

I have a lovely friend called Margie, who created a nursery 5 years ago. Located in La Calera, this place is a real paradise for children. I would make another baby just to be able to put him there!

Each of the sheds is a different classroom. One is for Art, another one for Dancing. There is even one exclusively for the bathroom. Children are always outside and everything has been studied to be safe and clean. That’s a perfect environment to start a life, isn’t it?

If you are interested to visit the place, please check their website in there.

Flower plantation: making the bouquets

On 30, Apr 2013 | One Comment | In Plants, Tourism | By ClaireGuilloton

After visiting the flower plantation, we went to have a glance at the massive garage they use to make the bouquets ready to export abroad.

The process, briefly:
The flowers are cut from the plantation and put carefully in fabric beds as we can see below. Then, they are sent to fumigation, in order to kill insects that could destroy them later. Afterwards, women take flowers one by one and send them to the right bouquets. All the bouquets are put in boxes and sent to the fridge (2 to 4 degrees) for about 2 to 5 hours before being exported by plane.

Thanks very much Lucy for the visit! It’s always interesting to know where our supermaket’s products come from.

Flower plantation

On 29, Apr 2013 | No Comments | In Plants, Tourism | By ClaireGuilloton

Did you know that Colombia was the second largest flower exporting country in the world? I didn’t.

Last week, I was very lucky because my English friend Lucy took me to one of the places where she works: a flower plantation close to Tenjo.

Very inspiring for textures and colours.

This plantation is only making carnations and roses and some of them are sold in supermarkets like Sainsbury’s, Tesco, or Waitrose in the UK.
